First light, first love
Ah, first light, first love,
A faint pale blue appearing
In the distant east
Stillness, not a word is heard,
As light opens sky and soul.
You are my first light,
O, that we’d speak together
Heart to heart as one,
As we did in days now past,
So may we do every day.
That’s hoping too much,
Asking more than you can give;
Still, I long for you
As I long for communion,
A mystical sweet union.
Break forth, my soul’s light,
Shine into silent darkness
As light now breaks forth
Displacing, replacing night
And the stars yield their glory.
Ah, first light, first love,
Don’t disappoint an old heart
Awaiting rebirth,
Awaiting a renewal
That true love alone effects.
